I recently read an article about how National Geographic magazine has launched a campaign called Planet or Plastic. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environ…/planetorplastic/.
It’s quite scary to think we do this much damage to our planet on a daily basis.
I had time this morning to go walking along the beach in Rose Bay before work (see 1st photo). I was just thinking about walking along and doing some deep breathing and taking in the view, the waves, and the chill of the water on my feet.
I got to the end where there was all old drain pipe covered with shells. I started looking around at all the shells and stuff on the ground. As I started walking back I noticed a large yellow plastic lid in the water. I hadn’t yet thought about the article that I read until that moment. I was enjoying my walk. But it hit me that I should pick it up.
Now, I had my shoes in one hand, so I used my free hand to pick up the lid. I continue walking along and find a plastic bag and a straw. As I continue to walk along, I try to pick up as much plastic on the beach or in the water as I can with one hand (see 2nd photo).
I actually felt really good throughout the day, just for this little deed of picking up some plastic (or maybe it had to do with the fresh air in my lungs and cold water on my feet).
We are going to destroy our planet if we continue to use plastic at the rate we do.
What can you do to decrease your plastic use?
Will you take the pledge from the National Geographic magazine? I did!
