Most people have tried a diet in their life. Just take a look at how many commercials there are on the radio and TV or diet books on the shelves at the local bookstore. The weight loss industry in the US is worth $65 billion, selling pills, powders, meal plans, gym memberships and much more.
The biggest problems with a diet are they are restrictive and unsustainable. What’s the first thing you do when someone tells you, “Don’t eat that, it’s bad for you.” You want to eat it. This is essentially what most diets do, tell you what foods you should or shouldn’t eat. If you are focused on the foods you can’t eat you will struggle to lose the weight because you are focused on the wrong aspect of the diet. Many diets come to an abrupt end because people binge on the foods they weren’t supposed to have and feel ashamed they couldn’t stick to the diet quitting altogether.
Generally speaking, a diet is a short-term plan of eating differently than you normally would. If it’s only temporary you will only have the results temporarily. Many dieters gain back most of the weight they lost while on the diet. Some people even gain it all back, plus more.
Because all diets have validity – people have lost weight using them, the guru’s push the diet to be effective for everyone. What you don’t know is not every diet is effective for everyone. You just want someone to tell you what to do because you have no desire to read a bunch of scientific articles to find out which diet might be the best for you.
The problem with this is you mindlessly follow a plan that has worked for others, without knowing if it will work for you. If or when you don’t get the weight loss results you are after you blame the diet, which is only partially true. Maybe it wasn’t the right diet for you.
You need to find an eating plan that works for you and this is rarely a fad diet. Even more important, you need to make it a lifestyle.
In my coaching, I look at diet from a different angle. Firstly, my definition of diet is the food you consume regularly. Secondly, I don’t believe in restricting you from any specific foods. I feel you are smart enough to know what foods are more nutritional or less nutritional. My purpose is to show you ways to view food differently. I want you to enjoy foods, feel nourished, and energised by the foods you eat. You can lose weight and eat any food while looking and feeling great in your own body.
How many times have you tried dieting and failed? Are you ready to get and keep results?
